Can Chiropractic Manage Migraines?

Migraines Lebanon OH Chiropractor Countryside Clinic of Chiropractic Dr. Tony Dejti

Eliminate a common cause of headaches with a regular chiropractic checkup.

You’re in agony, in a darkened room, with no sound. Your throbbing head feels as though it is splitting in half and you’re nauseous, maybe even vomiting. You have a migraine and you just want the pain to go away…and never come back.

What Causes a Migraine Headache?

There are many triggers – the most common are:

  • Foods, including alcohol, aged cheese, caffeine, chocolate, artificial sweeteners and seasonings (MSG)
  • Hormonal changes, related to a drop in estrogen levels, which may occur before a woman’s monthly period. Birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy can also trigger migraines
  • Medications
  • Stress
  • Too much/too little sleep
  • Weather changes or changes in time zone or altitude
  • External factors, such as bright lights, certain smells (perfume) or second-hand smoke

Typical medical treatment for migraines is prescribed preventative and symptom-relieving medication.

Positive Results with Chiropractic Care

A number of research studies have examined the effects of chiropractic care on the frequency, intensity and duration of migraine headaches. One such study, conducted for six months at the Chiropractic Research Center of Macquarie University in Australia, involved 177 participants who had migraine headaches for an average of 18 years.

The results of the study were impressive; most of the participants experienced positive outcomes. Seventy-two percent had substantial reduction or noticeable improvement in their symptoms, including a drop in the frequency, intensity and duration of their migraines, and a decreased need for their migraine medications.

Consider the All-natural Approach

If you or someone you love suffers from migraine headaches, or any other type of headache, please consider all-natural, conservative chiropractic care. Ask to see our testimonials; we have many patients who are grateful for the headache relief they have experienced as a result of chiropractic care.

One Hundred Types of Arthritis?

Arthritis comes in over 100 varieties, but it doesn’t have to strike you!

As we age, many of us start to feel pain in certain joints, particularly in the hands, hips, knees, feet and spine. This seems especially common in women. A doctor might make the broad diagnosis of arthritis, an inflammation of the joint that causes pain and stiffness, but do you know that there are at least 100 different types of arthritis that fall under this very broad umbrella?

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage between the bones in the joint breaks down, causing pain as the bones grind against one another. Typical causes are aging, repetitive use, being overweight and a family history of the disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder of the joints that usually begins between the ages of 30 – 50, is also quite common. Symptoms that include swelling, redness and a feeling of warmth usually begin in the small joints of the fingers, wrists and feet. More common in women than men, this condition can be very disabling, affecting one’s ability to work and lead a normal life.

Other common types of arthritis include gout, lupus, fibromyalgia, Scleroderma and carpal tunnel syndrome. Depending on the type and severity of the condition, physical therapy and different combinations of drugs may be prescribed to relieve pain and reduce swelling.

Can Chiropractic Help Your Joint Pain?

Chiropractic care may be helpful at both preventing arthritis and in reducing pain and lack of mobility in those who already have the condition. How? When a person has arthritis, pain keeps them from moving. Lack of movement reduces the use of the joint and decreases range of motion, which makes the condition worse.

Chiropractic adjustments may help to increase mobility in the joints, causing more movement and a reduction in pain. They also may help slow down the progression of the arthritic condition.

Chiropractic care may also help prevent arthritic conditions because it encourages specific behaviors and habits that contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle, such as diet, proper weight maintenance and exercise.

In addition, chiropractic adjustments help to keep the spine properly aligned and the nervous system, which controls the immune system, functioning optimally.

How Can I Get My Spouse To Come In?

Lebanon, OH Chiropractor

Are you having a hard time getting your spouse to see a chiropractor?

It’s a question we hear all the time. If you’ve experienced great results from care in our office, it’s only natural to want someone you love to benefit too. Here are some approaches you may find more helpful than threats.

Ask questions. Rather than judge their unwillingness to try chiropractic, become curious. Since our behaviors are the result of our beliefs (conscious and unconscious), try to find out what belief(s) are standing in the way. Often it’s some unfounded fear or misconception. Find out what the real issue is.

Supply information. One of the best ways to defuse irrational fears is by sharing information. Let us know how we can help. What could we do to equip you with the information you need to make a difference?

Offer an invitation. We are open and welcoming to skeptics, doubters and cynics! We stand ready to field phone calls—even anonymous ones. Or bring your loved one with you to take a tour of our practice on your next visit.

Give it time. Change takes time. Whether it’s making changes to the spine or changing someone’s beliefs. Be patient. Trust that your friend or family member will choose chiropractic if and when the time is right.

Every bodily function, controlled by our nervous system, is the key idea behind chiropractic. And since we experience our lives through our nervous systems, the decision to use chiropractic has huge implications. When you tell others, you’re changing the world. Congratulations!

Spinal Misalignments Can Make for a Cranky Baby

Crying Baby - Lebanon OH Chiropractor - Countryside Clinic of Chiropractic

Could your child’s constant crying be her way of saying she has a throbbing headache?

New parents quickly become accustomed to their baby’s cries. But when mom or dad take care of the typical problems and baby still cries, what might be the cause?

A cry is the only way your infant can let you know that something is wrong. Many parents learn to discriminate among their baby’s cries. When their precious newborn rubs its eyes and whines, they know baby is tired. When their baby sucks on its fingers and cries the same at regular intervals, mom and dad know baby is hungry. When baby screams and kicks or draws its legs up and punches the air with its fists, attentive parents know that baby is in pain.

But if your infant is in discomfort and your pediatrician can’t pinpoint a cause, schedule a visit to our practice. Chiropractic care may help eliminate your baby’s discomfort.

Does Your Infant Need Chiropractic Care?

How could an infant need chiropractic care? While being born is an amazing process, it also can be traumatic to a baby’s fragile neck and spine. When the baby moves down the birth canal, it is under pressure from mom’s contractions and pushing. Delivery also may include the use of forceps or vacuum extraction. What might happen? A compressed neck and spine for baby.

A compressed neck or spine can cause spinal misalignments that may develop into such conditions as headaches, colic, ear infections, asthma and allergies. While some of these can be detected during a visit to the pediatrician, others cannot. However, these conditions may be addressed using safe and gentle chiropractic care.

A Tender Touch for Your Infant

Chiropractic care for an infant? No need to worry. The force exerted on your infant’s spine is as light as the touch you use to test a tomato’s firmness. But that tender touch can realign your infant’s spine and allow its nervous system to function as it should.

If you have found no visible cause for your cranky baby’s distress, bring your infant to our practice for an examination and evaluation. We may be able to alleviate both your baby’s cause of distress and your concerns as well.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All!

Lebanon OH Chiropractor Countryside Clinic of Chiropractic Dr. Tony Dejti Wellness

Did you know all Chiropractic adjustments are different even if you go to a doctor that has the same adjusting technique as other Chiropractors?

You may have noticed that from one visit to the next, your adjustments all seem the same. “Seem” is the key word!

To those without a chiropractic degree and professional experience, the timing, angle, force and intent may appear to be the same on each visit. Even more inaccurate is the assumption that all patients are adjusted in the same way. Not true!

Every Chiropractor Is Different

There are many tools available to assist in an evaluation of your spine on each visit. These tools may include skin temperature readings along your spine, leg length measurements, posture, range of motion or even a high-tech tool called surface electromyograph. These and other objective measurements, combined with years of training and experience determine the care you receive on each visit.

That’s just the start. Your care is also based on a highly refined sense of touch. “Feeling with the hands” by gently pressing on muscles and spinal joints is called palpation. This form of ultra-sensitive touch provides volumes of information about joint stability, function and the approach that should be used. Nothing, not even an observant spouse or friend who accompanies you on your visit, can substitute for this special form of experience.

Individualized Care Just for You!

Your care is unique and your adjustments are tailored specifically to your individual needs. Your adjustments are unlike anyone else’s. That’s just one reason why we think you’re so special!
